The Time and Tide Bell at Brixham is one of 13 across England, Wales and Scotland highlighting rising sea levels and global warming

These Time and Tide bells are major sculptures of unique design, located at select locations around the British coast, mounted in such a way that the incoming tide causes the bell to ring. The rise of the water at high tide moves a clapper to strike the bell and as the sea level rises the period between bell strikes becomes shorter and the pitch of the bell changes. They have attracted a great deal of interest among many visitors to their very varied sites.

The structure cost £20,000 and was put up on a rock bed on Breakwater Beach on 6 June 2023.

More than 20 people helped get it into place, including members of Brixham gig rowing club.

Pauline Neal, of the Friends of Brixham Time and Tide Bell, advises that the larger bottom portion of the bronze bell weighs about 1.5 tonnes, with the 0.25-tonne top bell and green oak supporting structure making it "really heavy".
